Saint Peter (Feast Day-June 29)

Saint Peter was one of the twelve. A fisherman on the Sea of Galilee, Peter would leave his nets to follow Jesus, becoming a leader among the disciples and a close friend to Jesus. Peter confessed Jesus as Messiah (Mt 16:13-20) and also denied knowinng him three times during the Passion (Lk 22:54-62). Peter would emergeĀ as a leader of the early Church, effectively preaching at Pentecost and performing many miracles. Historical witness places him in Rome, with tradition considering him the first bishop of Rome (ie Pope). Tradition also that Peter was crucified under the Emperor Nero in 64 CE.
